CareDiem® Home Care provides non-medical caregiving services on a Live-In basis.
Our goal is for the caregivers to assist clients in maintaining their normal daily routines while aging in place. This is achieved by assisting and supporting clients with their ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) and IADLs (Instrumental Activities of Daily Living). Live-in services are charged by the day.

In order to qualify for live-in services, all of the following conditions and expectations must be met:
Break Time:
In accordance with Illinois labor laws, the caregiver is required to have at least three (3) one-hour breaks during the day and eight (8) hours of personal time at night.
During the combined eleven (11) hours of break and personal time in a twenty-four (24) hour period, the caregiver must be free from all duties in caring for and assisting the Client. If free time is not possible due to Client needs, alternate arrangements can be made by contacting a CDHC Supervisor.
Sleeping Arrangements:
A private room or area with a bed must be provided for the live-in caregiver. If the client’s apartment/home cannot accommodate these requests, the client will not qualify for live-in services. In these cases, hourly services will be provided.
Food and Beverage:
Clients are to provide a meal allowance for the live-in caregiver, which will be charged in the monthly invoice. Clients do not need to provide food for live-in caregivers when a meal allowance is paid. Clients should not give the caregivers a meal allowance directly, and there should be no exchange of money between clients and caregivers.
Around the Clock 24 Hourly Care
The client does not qualify for live-in services if the needs are unpredictable, the caregiver is needed at night, if the client is an elopement risk, or if the client is unable to be left alone. In such instances, CareDiem® Home Care can provide around-the-clock care.
Live-in Care: What Is It All About?
Have you ever wondered what it really means to have live-in care for yourself or a loved one? Live-in care is a type of non-medical home care that allows individuals to remain safely and comfortably in their own homes while receiving around-the-clock assistance from a dedicated caregiver. At CareDiem® Home Care, we understand how important it is for seniors and individuals with specific care needs to maintain their independence, routines, and dignity—without the stress of relocating to an unfamiliar facility.
Live-in care is especially valuable for those needing consistent support due to chronic conditions, mobility limitations, or cognitive impairments. For families seeking compassionate Alzheimer’s care in Palatine, Illinois, live-in care can offer peace of mind, knowing that their loved one is supported in a familiar environment by someone trained to respond to memory-related challenges with patience and empathy.
Live-in care is designed for individuals who need help with everyday tasks throughout the day but whose needs are still predictable enough to allow the caregiver scheduled rest and downtime. Whether it’s assistance with getting dressed in the morning, preparing meals, or ensuring safety during movement, a live-in caregiver provides essential companionship and personal support, fostering both comfort and security.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What’s the difference between live-in care and 24-hour care?
Live-in care involves a caregiver staying in the home for 24 hours but with designated rest and sleep breaks. In contrast, 24-hour care means multiple caregivers work in shifts to provide continuous, active care without interruption.
Can live-in caregivers provide medical services or administer medications?
No, live-in caregivers provide non-medical assistance only. They can remind clients to take their medications but are not licensed to administer them.
How many hours per day is a live-in caregiver actively working?
While the caregiver is present for 24 hours, they are actively working for up to 13 hours per day, excluding mandated rest and sleep periods.
Is live-in care suitable for clients with dementia or memory loss?
It depends on the severity and unpredictability of the condition. Clients with mild to moderate cognitive decline who can be left alone briefly may qualify. Those at risk of wandering or nighttime disorientation are better suited to 24-hour care.
What happens if the client’s condition changes suddenly?
If a client’s care needs change—especially if nighttime support becomes necessary—CareDiem® can transition the client to hourly or 24-hour care to ensure continued safety and well-being.
